  • We go camping at least 1 weekend per month.

  • We participate in Sunset District Camp-o-rees.
  • We do community service projects.
  • We go for a weeklong summer camp at Cole Canoe Base.
  • We do various high-adventure camping such as Isle Royale or Philmont Scout Ranch.
  • Troop 889 is a Scout-run troop. The Scouts (not the parents) choose scouting related activities and make them happen.

Must Scouts commit to attending every meeting/activity?
  • No, with all the possible activities, scheduling that many nights over the year can be a real challenge. We traditionally have boys who miss part of the fall or spring with various sports. But, the Meetings teach scouting skills that are emphasized on the camp-outs, so you won't want to miss them!
  • Although you can join anytime, it helps us do the registration process and insures that your son receives all the benefits membership if you sign before the end of March.

Must a parent attend every meeting/activity with the Scout?
  • No, for most Meetings you can drop your son off and then pick him up afterwards.
  • All Parents are invited to volunteer for any of the Troop offices, help out with meetings, or drive/attend camp-outs. At least plan on monthly Parents Meetings to discuss upcoming events and steer direction of the Troop.

How much does Boy Scouting cost?
  • Registration is $65 per year plus dues of $2 per meeting. This goes for registration in Boy Scouts of America, insurance, Boy's Life magazine subscription, neckerchief, Boy Scout Handbook. It also goes towards troop costs such as awards, supplies, and camping equipment.
  • There will be an additional fee for camping and some other optional Troop activities.
  • We have 1 main fundraiser: Scrip Cards are available at every Parents Meeting. We also do several bottle drives throughout the year
  • For most Troop activities, the scouts must have a "Class A" uniform. This consists of Scout shirt with full insignia and a neckerchief with a valid scout slide. Official Boy Scout pants or dark green pants should be worn as part of this "class A" uniform. Scouting related T-shirts or sweatshirts are acceptable during campouts.
